Website: https://speacle.org

This Privacy Policy explains how SPEACLE collects, uses, protects, and manages personal information from students, parents/guardians, and mentors ("users") who use our services.

By using the Speacle platform, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

If you are under 18 years old, you must review this Policy with your parent or legal guardian, who must consent to your participation.

1. Overview

SPEACLE is a mentorship platform connecting students with independent peer mentors for academic and personal growth.

We are committed to protecting the privacy, safety, and data of all users—especially minors.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate and improve our services.

A. Information You Provide

  • Account Data: Name, age, country, school level, and email.
  • Academic Information: Subjects of interest, goals, and study habits.
  • Mentorship Data: Messages, progress reports, and session notes.
  • Payment Information: Billing details processed securely by third-party payment providers (e.g., Stripe). Speacle does not store credit card numbers.
  • Parent/Guardian Data (for minors): Contact information for consent and communication.

B. Automatically Collected Data

  • Usage Data: Log files, device information, browser type, IP address, and session activity.
  • Cookies: Used for session management, analytics, and personalization. Users can disable cookies in browser settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected data to:

  • Deliver mentorship sessions and academic support.
  • Match students with appropriate mentors.
  • Monitor communications to maintain a safe environment.
  • Process payments and subscriptions.
  • Improve user experience and platform performance.
  • Enforce our no off-platform communication and safety policies.
  • Comply with legal obligations and regulatory standards.

4. Communication Safety and Monitoring

For student protection and compliance:

  • All communication between students and mentors must remain on the Speacle platform.
  • Speacle monitors or logs chats and mentorship calls for safety, moderation, and training purposes.
  • Any attempt to exchange contact details (e.g., phone numbers, social media, or emails) is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate account suspension.
  • These measures ensure student safety and prevent inappropriate, unsafe, or unsupervised communication.

SPEACLE never records or monitors sessions for commercial use—only for safety, compliance, and dispute resolution.

5. Data Retention

  • Account and mentorship data are retained while the user maintains an active account.
  • Upon account deletion, most data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal or operational reasons (e.g., payment records, misconduct investigations).
  • Users may request data deletion by contacting privacy@speacle.org.

6. Data Security

We use encryption, secure servers, and industry-standard access controls to protect all user data.

Despite our efforts, no online service is completely immune to risk; users share data at their own discretion and understanding.

7. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data.

We only share limited data with:

  • Payment processors for billing transactions (e.g., Stripe).
  • Cloud service providers (for hosting and analytics).
  • Legal authorities if required by law or to protect the safety of a user.

All third-party partners are contractually bound to uphold equivalent privacy and data protection standards.

8. Parental Consent and Minor Protection

Because SPEACLE is used by minors:

  • We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and UK/EU GDPR for child data.
  • Parents or guardians must approve their child's participation.
  • Parents can at any time:
    • Review their child's information,
    • Request correction or deletion, or
    • Withdraw consent by contacting privacy@speacle.org.

If SPEACLE learns that data was collected from a child under 13 without consent, we will promptly delete that information.

9. User Rights

Depending on your region, you may have the right to:

  • Access a copy of your data.
  • Request corrections to inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion ("right to be forgotten").
  • Withdraw consent for specific processing activities.
  • File a complaint with your local data authority.

Requests can be sent to privacy@speacle.org.

SPEACLE operates globally.

Your data may be processed on servers located outside your country.

When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards in accordance with GDPR and similar frameworks.

11. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies to:

  • Keep users logged in,
  • Track progress across sessions, and
  • Analyze how users interact with the platform.

Users can opt out of non-essential cookies anytime via browser settings.

12. Changes to This Policy

SPEACLE may update this Privacy Policy periodically.

We will notify users of any significant changes via email or platform notice.

Continued use of the platform after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
